Sicily’s second largest city lies in the shadow of the majestic Mount Etna. Catania has twice survived the eruptions of the still active volcano and has emerged as a modern city – ironically, the lava flow has perfectly preserved Catania’s Roman and medieval villas and palaces, for the enjoyment of today’s visitors.
